The case, involving the only suspect arrested in connection with the mass shooting that left eight people dead in Kwazakhele township to Gqeberha has been postponed.
Thirty-year-old Mzwandile Mahambehlala briefly appeared in the New Brighton Magistrate's Court where his formal proceedings were expected to take place on Monday.
However, he indicated to the court that he would like to appoint a Legal Wise attorney.
Mahambehlala was arrested over a week ago after police followed up on a tip-off that six suspects linked to the shooting were hiding out in Walmer flats.
The five were able to get away, and a manhunt for them is still ongoing.
The shooting, which sent shockwaves throughout the country prompting the Minister of Police to visit the area, left four men and three women dead.
The eighth victim died later in hospital and the homeowner, Vusumuzi Sishuba, who was celebrating his birthday with his brother Andile was among those killed.
Meanwhile, a small group of community members returned to protest against Mahambehlala's arrest on Monday.
The group, which hurled insults and threatened to assault an Algoa FM reporter who was taking videos outside the court building, held banners indicating that they believed that the police had arrested the wrong suspect.
However, they still refused to divulge their reasons for believing this was a wrongful arrest.
Meanwhile, the Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Major General Vuyisile Ncata previously rejected these claims during the suspect's first appearance.
Ncata told the media that the police believed that they had arrested the right person as they wouldn't have charged him if they were not sure.
