Man fatally wounded in car after inspecting firearm

File

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man on a charge of murder after a passenger in a car was fatally wounded in the early of Sunday morning.

Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the incident happened in Forest Hill between 4 AM and 5 AM when the deceased was in the car with three other men.

“According to information, the suspect was sitting at the back of the vehicle when the passenger sitting next to him wanted to look at his firearm,” she said.

Janse Van Rensburg said the suspect removed the magazine and handed it to the passenger.

“After the passenger returned the firearm, the suspect replaced the magazine and pulled the trigger.  A shot was fired hitting the deceased in the back of the head,” she said.

The driver rushed the victim to the hospital, however, he passed away on arrival.

Police arrested the suspect on Sunday morning, but Janse Van Rensburg said the firearm has not yet been found.

The suspect will appear in court this week on a charge of murder.
