Three people were killed and seven injured when a group of armed men opened fire on a taxi driving along the MR423 road in Craiglea near Cato Ridge on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson for ER 24 Russel Meiring says when they arrived on the scene the local authorities were already in attendance.
He says they found the taxi on the side of the road, riddled with bullets.
Meiring says medics found the bodies of a young man, a schoolgirl and a baby inside the taxi with fatal wounds.
Seven other passengers also sustained gunshot wounds and were found scattered around the scene.
Meiring says all the wounded passengers were rushed to hospital with their conditions ranging from moderate to serious.
The motive for the attack is unclear at this stage and will form part of the police investigation.
