A man believed to be in his sixties has died after he was assaulted with a mannequin in Korsten in Gqeberha.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says a vagrant was woken up by the suspect who was looking for someone around 02h00 on Tuesday.
She says when he realised the vagrant was not the person he was looking for, he approached the victim who was sitting on stairs nearby and began assaulting him.
Colonel Naidu says the deceased, who is unknown, was severely beaten and later passed away at the scene.
The suspect then ran off with the mannequin.
She says the vagrant, who was earlier approached by the suspect, reported the murder to the police.
Colonel Naidu says they are not sure where the suspect found the mannequin turned murder weapon.
Anyone who may be able to identify the deceased, or who has information on the whereabouts of the suspect, is asked to contact the Gelvandale Police Detective branch or their nearest police station.
