A 30-year-old taxi driver has been arrested after he fatally struck a 14-year-old boy and fled from the accident scene in Stanford Road, Gqeberha.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says Luke Prinsloo was riding his bicycle on the Van Der Kemp Kloof bridge when he was hit by the taxi around 5pm on Monday.
She says the driver failed to stop and instead fled the scene, but an eyewitness managed to take down his registration number.
Colonel Naidu says the taxi owner was contacted and took the driver to the police station where he was taken into custody.
She says further details surrounding the accident are being investigated.
The taxi driver is expected to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of culpable homicide.
