A 38-year-old man is expected to appear in the King Williams Town Magistrates court following his arrest for possession of Khat.
Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the KWT flying squad received information about a motor vehicle in Botanic Street that might contain drugs.
She says officers proceeded to the said street and found a Vollkswagen Polo.
Upon searching the vehicle they found 2 bags with 47 bunches of Khat weighing 7.5kg.
Govender says it has a streetvalue of R5 000.
Khat is a plant native to the horn of African and was classified as a drug by the World Health Organisation in 1980.
The use of Khat is legal in several countries, but in South Africa, it is a protected tree and tree and its use is illegal.
