Man arrested following massive Mandrax bust in Port Elizabeth

A 33-year-old man from Kwazakhele in Port Elizabeth will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after he was found in possession of Mandrax worth R1.4 million.

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda, says the man was arrested in Motherwell yesterday, and has been charged with dealing in drugs.

He says the Hawks had been watching the suspect for some time, and when his white Toyota Conquest was spotted at Truckers Inn in Motherwell yesterday, they arrested him.

Netshiunda says the vehicle was searched, and R28 000 mandrax tablets, wrapped in two boxes, were found hidden inside a black sports bag.

He says the suspect’s cellphone and vehicle were also seized.

The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have recovered more than 70 000 mandrax tablets in the last couple of months, and says the quest to dismantle a syndicate which transports Mandrax to Port Elizabeth continues.
