The Premier in KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, says they have already seen a difference at hospital trauma units after a week of no alcohol sales.
He says the suspension of liquor sales and the reinstatement of nightly curfews have reduced the pressure on emergency and accident units in facilities across the province.
Speaking at a COVID-19 briefing in Durban on Sunday, Zikalala said since the President’s address to the nation, mortuary admissions of people who died from violent causes also decreased.
In one Durban hospital, trauma cases had dropped from 155 two weeks ago, to 120 last week.
