Major Eastern Cape road closed after bridge-collapse

The 70 kilometre stretch of the R61 between Tarkastad and Queenstown has been closed to traffic after a bridge under construction at a detour collapsed in heavy rains - 13 kilometres from Tarkastad.
Engineers began their inspection of the bridge on Monday.
Provincial traffic department spokesperson Tschepo Machaya says the R61 between Tarkastad and Cradock is open to traffic.
