The South African leg of the IRB Sevens World Series is set to be lost to Nelson Mandela Bay and relocate to the Cape Town Stadium for the foreseeable future.
A media conference has been scheduled for the Cape Town stadium at 10.30 on Friday morning where SA Rugby says a major rugby announcement will be made.
SARU CEO Jurie Roux and Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille will be in attendance.
An impeccable source close to EP Rugby confirmed to AlgoaFM News a short while ago that the event hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay the past four years, would be moving to the mother city - apparently at the insistence of title sponsor HSBC.
Cape Town has the geographical advantage of being able to accommodate international flights direct into the city and the main hotel where the teams would stay is also one of SA Rugby's commercial partners.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens had become the feature event on Port Elizabeth's December events programme, bringing with it tens of millions of rands into the city's economy.
