DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, said he was pleased with the progress in Oudtshoorn.
This followed the town’s municipality being placed under administration for a year due to poor service delivery and poor management.
Maimane said the town’s council faced an uphill task to turn the municipality around, describing the municipality as debt-ridden and virtually bankrupt.
He said the Cango Caves faced imminent closure, but that Oudtshoorn turned the situation around by attracting 2 500 more visitors to the caves in May 2017, comparing to the same month in 2016.
During a recent visit to Oudtshoorn, Maimane disclosed to members of the media that over the last ten months, the municipality’s debt had decreased from R112 million to R31 million.
