Claims by the UDM leader and erstwhile Transkei bantustan ruler, Bantu Holomisa that Cde Nelson Mandela wanted him to be the premier of the province are nothing but desperate political claims of comical proportions.
Holomisa's claims months after Madiba passed away are a clear attempt to use Madiba's name for political expediency.
Holomisa is fully aware that his name and that of the UDM have no political currency, hence he is opportunistically using Madiba's name ahead of elections.
Madiba was the President of the ANC when Holomisa was expelled. He was part of the collective that took the decision to expel Holomisa for lack of discipline.
With no political content to offer, Holomisa decided to use Madiba's name in a bid to win few seats after the elections.
As more of his members keep on resigning from the UDM and joining the ANC, Holomisa is fully aware that his party is hastily becoming a shadow of its envisioned self.
During his rulership of Transkei, Holomisa failed to develop the infrastructure, improve the conditions of the working class, improve the regional economy, eradicate mud schools, deliver electricity to rural and township areas, eradicate fraud and corruption.
All the bantustans, Transkei in particular, had potent systematic fraud and corruption, which the ANC government is addressing.
It can't be then that a ruler of this former bantustan can now be deemed a congruent person to lead the province.
The only time the Eastern Cape government started to fight fraud and corruption as the day the ANC was voted into office.
We are dealing with every incident of fraud and corruption in this province because it frustrates service delivery, development, growth and transformation of our province.
The ANC has done a much better job than any of the bantustan and apartheid rulers put together with their apartheid friends.
The people of the Eastern Cape must not pay attention to desperate politicians like Holomisa who would say anything to get votes in order to keep their parliamentary seats.
Such desperate individuals have no interest of our people at heart. Only the ANC is capable of continuing with the development and transformation of this country and province in particular as we have been doing since 1994.
Ends…
