Former South African president Nelson Mandela made his first public appearance in six months on Wednesday when he received a symbolic flame to mark the ruling ANC's centenary at his rural home in Qunu.
A healthy-looking Mandela, seated on an armchair, smiled as the ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete presented the flame to him in an event shown on television.
Images of Madiba, who returned to his childhood village in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday, were last seen in October when he cast his vote in local government elections there.
