Police in Gqeberha have closed their investigation into an incident of rape involving a young girl that allegedly took place at Michui Primary School in the Northern Areas on Monday.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says medical professionals have confirmed that no rape took place.
Community members were up in arms following the allegation and the rumour mill went into high gear, even going as far as to implicate fellow learners.
Colonel Naidu says the six-year-old child told her father that the driver of her school transport had bumped into her while reversing into a parking lot.
It is further alleged that as the driver was reversing, children were seen jumping out of the moving vehicle which could have resulted in the girl's injuries.
The female transport driver took the child to a nearby clinic shortly after the incident.
The Chairperson for the School Governing Body (SGB) Rano Kayser says the meeting on the incident, scheduled to take place with parents on Thursday evening, has been cancelled.
