Luxury car used in daring Grahamstown robbery is found

Grahamstown police have recovered the bullet-ridden Mercdes Benz that had been used in a daring robbery in the city at the end of last month.

Police spokesperson, Captain Milanda Coetzer, says car was found parked in the garage of a house in Joza Extension Seven last Friday.

She says a woman had alerted an off-duty policeman about her suspicions about the car.

Coetzer says the policeman immediately made the connection to the robbery of a construction company on the 31st of October and the subsequent shoot-out in Extension Four between the robbery gang and officials from Hi-Tec security, after hearing details of the car's registration on Algoa FM News.

Coetzer says police spent the past weekend conducting an extensive forensic examination of the vehicle, which had been hijacked in Durban in August.

She says witnesses also provided information from which two identikits of the suspects were compiled.

"The Eastern Cape community is asked to please assist the Grahamstown police and make contact with us if anyone can identify any one of the two men on the identikits provided. We again warn people that they must be considered to be armed and dangerous, so please do not apprehend them and rather make contact with the police." says Coetzer.
