Questions about the proposed Algoa Bay fish farm have been submitted in both the National Council of Provinces and Bhisho Legislature for next week.
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana will be asked in the NCOP whether the site selected by his department in Algoa Bay for the fish farm was “prioritised” in a consultant’s report.
The DA's Cathlene Labuschagne wants to know if it was not prioritised on what basis it was rejected and if it was prioritised on what basis it was selected.
Eastern Cape Economic Development MEC, Sakhumzi Somyo will also be questioned in the Bhisho Legislature about whether due process had been followed with respect to the consultation process on the fish farm.
The party's Ross Purdon alsowants to know whether any environmental, pollution and tourism concerns about the siting of the fish farm have been raised and what these details are.
The fish farm proposal has raised alarm bells, particularly amongst the organisors of the IronMan event who say it will harm the event and the Metro's tourism potential.
