Lungisa 'confused' lockdown trial dates - lawyer

File

Former Nelson Mandela Bay ANC councillor, Andile Lungisa, will go on trial next month for contravening lockdown regulations.

The National Prosecuting Authority said his case would be heard in the Motherwell Magistrate's Court on 18 November.

Spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said his trial was supposed to start Tuesday, however, she said Lungisa was absent in court.

“His attorney reported that his client had confused the dates. The court issued a warrant for his arrest and ordered that it be held over until 18 November 2021,” Ngcakani said.

She said that the state alleges that Lungisa contravened Alert Level 4 regulations of the Disaster Management Act, by convening an “an illegal gathering of about 30 people at Addo Road and Malinge Street in  Motherwell, in July.”
