Dozens of passengers on an Intercape bus travelling from the Western to the Eastern Cape had a lucky escape shortly after midnight on Friday.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department says the bus ploughed into a herd of cattle sleeping on the N2 near Palmietvlei between Humansdorp and Tsitsikamma.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said one passenger sustained injuries while 25 others were relatively unharmed.
Three of the cattle were killed.
Binqose said another bus was sent to pick up the shaken passengers.
Transport MEC for the Eastern Cape Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe said she is grateful that there was no loss of life but urged farmers to take better care of their livestock and to ensure that they do not roam around sleeping on roads.
