Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for three unknown gunmen who burnt down a woman's house and slaughtered eight animals in Mthatha shortly after midnight on Monday.
A police spokesperson Captain Dineo Koena says the men, who were armed with rifles and a petrol bomb, kicked the door open at the 40-year-old woman's house and demanded to see her husband, who was not home at the time.
She says they then burnt down the house before going to the kraal to slaughter six sheep and two lambs.
Captain Koena says the woman and her children managed to escape unharmed.
No arrests have been made.
