A Port Elizabeth traffic officer had a lucky escape on Thursday night when he was abducted by two men he said he pulled over because of a faulty tail-light on their bakkie
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says the 38-year-old traffic officer said he was abducted in Rundell Street in Sidwell and shoved into the boot of his patrol car.
He said the traffic officer asked the bakkie driver for his license and while waiting for him to return to the patrol car an alleged accomplice confronted him with a fire-arm.
Labans says the officer reported that several items were taken from him.
A witness who wrote about the incident on the social networking site, Public Servants News Network, said he freed the traffic officer from the vehicle.
Another person said the assailants had ripped the radio from the vehicle which was also damaged during the incident.
The traffic department and police also came in for praise for responding to the incident within minutes.
