Lots of rain in region....nowhere near the catchment areas

Good rainfall was measured over parts of the Eastern Cape up until 8 o'clock on Monday morning.

Spokesperson for the SA Weather Service in Port Elizabeth, Garth Sampson says 65 mm were measured at the 3rd Ave dip in Newton Park and at the Riverstone Bridge, while 23 mm fell at the city's airport.

He says other places which measured 20 millimeters and more, were Blue Horizon Bay with 35 mm, Van Stadens Flower Reserve 38, and Bisho 23 mm.

Sampson says not much rain fell in the metro's catchment area, but chances are good over the next day or two...

Intermittent moderate rainfall is expected along the coast from Port Elizabeth to East London and adjacent interior on Monday

Overnight tonight a cut off low moves in over our area and moderate to heavy showers are expected over the entire western half of the region south of Graaf Reinett.

During this period flooding can be expected in places between Plettenberg bay and Port Elizabeth. This will spread to the East London region later

The system will move out to sea in the region of East London by late afternoon

The high will then ridge in bringing in light rain to the coast and adjacent interior for most of Wednesday

It will start to clear from the west on Thursday.
