The expected increase in the retail price of all grades of petrol of between 20 and 30 cents a litre, will plunge highly indebted South Africans even deeper into the debt spiral.
That's according to the CEO of Debt Rescue, Neil Roets.
The Department of Energy is expected to announce fuel price hikes on Friday.
Roets says about 48% of all consumers are in arrears by at least 3 payments on one of their accounts.
"This is just going to push even more people who find themselves in the middle class going into poverty. They will feel it in their pockets as the price of services and goods will also go up" he said.
