The Eastern Cape Department of Transport will conduct an investigation into the long-term development potential of the Bhisho and Mthatha airports this year.
Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu says the study is aimed at further promoting and supporting the two airports and will be done in conjunction with the Departments of Economic Affairs, Environment and Tourism and the Provincial Treasury.
The Mthatha Airport runway and Terminal Building projects are currently underway.
The airport upgrade forms part of the wider King Sabata Dalind-yebo Presidential Intervention Project led by the National Department of Transport as the implementing agent for the Eastern Cape Department of Transport.
