A brazen robber has held up congregants at St Marks and St Johns Anglican Church in Van der Kemp Street, Parkside in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the man appeared to be acting alone when he struck in broad daylight, just after ten o'clock on Saturday morning.
He was wearing a grey and black hoodie and sunglasses and ordered the female priest and 11 church members to hand over their valuables at gunpoint.
Van Rensburg says he went from pew to pew, relieving church goers of their cash and cellphones. She says a camera was also taken.
The gunman reportedly told the priest she should pray for him when he left.
No-one was injured and police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
