The ANC in Nelson Mandela Bay has reportedly elected Andile Lungisa as the chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee.
Lungisa, who is also a member of the Provincial Executive Committee, initially said he would not be standing but later made an about turn.
He was challenged for the top spot by Tony Duba at the party's regional elective conference at East Cape Training Centre in Port Elizabeth.
Lungisa’s deputy is Phumzile Tshuni, while Themba Xatula, Desiree Davids and Mbulelo Gidane round out the top five REC positions.
Lungisa is also facing assault charges following the brawl in a Council meeting at which he allegedly assaulted a DA member with a glass jug.
A formal statement is still expected from the ANC.
