Local law enforcement on high alert as President to address the nation again

President Cyril Ramaphosa will host another family meeting on Monday on the government's response to persistent public violence in parts of the country.

Government says this follows the announcement by the SA National Defence Force that it has commenced with pre-deployment processes following a request from the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure.

The SANDF says it will be supporting police operations in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Government says the President may authorise the deployment of the national defence force in cooperation with the police service and must inform Parliament of such employment.

Meanwhile, Eastern Cape Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxotiwe, has pleaded with the people of the Eastern Cape to resist any temptation to jump on the protest bandwagon.

Her appeal came amid rumours on social media, that protests could also break out in the Eastern Cape.

MEC Tikana-Gxotiwe says law enforcement will be on high alert in the province.

The country-wide unrest has also had an impact on the payment of social grants.

This, after the Cash-In-Transit industry, informed the SA Social Security Agency that it will not be providing any cash delivery services to SASSA cash pay points until further notice.

Sassa Eastern Cape spokesperson, Luzuko Qina, says this is to ensure their safety as well as the safety of SASSA beneficiaries.

Gauteng vaccinations

The Gauteng Government says vaccination sites in areas affected by sporadic acts of violence and lawlessness have had to be temporarily closed due to safety concerns by both the staff and members of the public.

Emergency Medical Services teams are also experiencing difficulty in responding to distress calls in communities due to limited access to hotspots.
