Gqeberha-based anti-Rhino poaching activist and author Wayne Bolton is embarking on another epic adventure in August in the name of Rhino Conservation.
In recent years, Wayne Bolton has completed two massive rides on his mountain bike, spanning thousands of kilometres in South Africa, to raise funds for the fight against Rhino Poaching.
Bolton announced at a media function on Tuesday that he would now be tackling a 2400 km journey from Namibia to Nelson Mandela Bay, starting on the 20th of August and ending on World Rhino Day on the 22nd of September at the Donkin.
This expedition has been named the Forever Rhino Ride.
"I think the first two expeditions have created a platform for us now and we felt the timing was right, especially with some of the Rhino Poaching that has taken place in the Etosha National Park in Namibia, to elevate the level of the awareness."
Bolton said the journey would thus bring together Namibia and South Africa with Namibia being the biggest Black Rhino population in the world and South Africa the biggest White Rhino population.
"I'm excited and nervous at the same time as usual," admitted Bolton. "I'm hoping the legs hold out on those corrugated gravel roads from Swakopmund to Sossusvlei in the middle of the Namib desert. But I've learnt in life as well that when you step out of your comfort zone its those occasions that will be with you forever."
Bolton said his main goal from this expedition is to complete the journey having connected different role players in Rhino conservation. "This would not be just at a political level but hopefully also at a national parks and private reserves level both in South Africa and Namibia. If we can also connect the next generation of kids in the two countries then we will have succeeded."
