Algoa FM listeners in especially Lusikisiki, Mthatha and Butterworth have spotted a halo around the sun on Monday. There are also several sightings from people in large parts of KwaZulu Natal.
According to the SA Weather Service, it is produced by the refraction of light by ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.
The 22° halo is the most frequently observed halo phenomenon, it will always have a radius of 22° regardless of its position in the sky.
