A human foot clad in a black Nike takkie was discovered by a local in Port Alfred after it had washed ashore on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the lower limb from the knee until the shoe had no flesh on it. The limb will now be analysed by Forensic Pathology Services.
She says there are no outstanding missing persons reported in the area or at neighbouring stations, however, earlier this month a suspect who attacked a police K9 called Ounooi, fled towards the sea and went missing.
A search was conducted for the suspect but with negative results.
Govender says the limb was found close to the area where the suspect went missing into the ocean and they will now try to establish if it does, in fact, belong to the suspect.
Ounooi, who was stabbed several times by the suspect, is making great progress and will soon be back on duty.
