The Eastern Cape Government said 22 distressed businesses received support from the Jobs Stimulus fund to save 1 123 jobs.

The R17.4 million rand was provided to businesses in the manufacturing, agro-processing, tourism and services sectors across the Eastern Cape.

"Fifteen businesses received money to save jobs and for working capital for their business operations while seven businesses only received money to save the jobs of their workers."

Bhisho said an additional R75 million to boost efforts to support distressed businesses in the province through the Jobs Stimulus Fund.

"All businesses in the Eastern Cape affected by COVID-19 that need financial assistance can still apply to the Jobs Stimulus Fund, which is administered by the provincial government's public entity, the Eastern Cape Development Corporation."
