Life in jail for men who killed RAF beneficiary

File

Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment in an Eastern Cape court for torturing a man to death in Mount Frere in November 2018.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, said a third suspect had turned state’s witness.

He said 30-year-old Baxolele Mxabo, and 29-year-old Wanda Dzingwe were also sentenced to an additional 20 years for robbery this week.

The court heard that the three had gone to the home of the deceased who had received a payout from the Road Accident Fund and suffocated him with a cloth soaked in paraffin while demanding that he give him his bank card and pin number.

Tonjeni said he relented and after withdrawing money from an ATM, where they were spotted on CCTV, they returned to the man’s home where killed him and fled with some of his belongings.

The three were arrested a month later and were found in possession of the deceased’s personal belongings.
