A 28-year-old man from Kwanobhle in Kariega is set to appear in court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.

He was arrested on Friday for malicious damage to property for allegedly setting his blankets on fire.

But, police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, says since his arrest, police K-9 dogs found a badly burned body in the yard of a house in Matana Street.

This grim discovery was made with the help of the K-9 unit sniffer dogs on Saturday.

Swart says the suspect was linked to this murder and another charge was added to the case.

It has since come to light that the victim was Andile Ntutela who is known as "Lulu".

A statement issued by the LGBTIQ in Nelson Mandela Bay says "Lulu" was well-loved by the community.

The sector expressed their deep worry about Lulu's murder and called on the community to not be silent on such cases and to speak out.

A spokesperson Sibonelo Ncanana-Trower says there has been an increase in hate crimes in the country and called on the government to intervene with the sector in engaging with the community.
