A Lesotho National who killed a couple from Great Brak River was sentenced to two life terms in the Circuit High Court in Mossel Bay on Monday.
The 29-year-old Stephen Lekoro was found guilty on Friday for the brutal murder of 72-year-old Tewie Human and his 62-year-old wife Eurika at their home in June of 2016.
Judge Mark Sher sentenced Lekoro to life in prison for each one of the murders and an additional 36 years for aggravated robbery (18 years for each victim).
Sher deviated from the prescribed minimum sentence of 15 years and said although Lekoro would be serving life, other people who might plan a similar crime should get the message that the courts are getting tired of dealing with brutal robberies of old and fragile people in society.
The Judge said the murders were cold-blooded and premeditated.
He said even though the court could not undo the damage done by Lekoro they could, however, ensure that he is removed from society.
Sher praised the senior State Advocate who insisted on the laptop and cellphone find in Lekoro's possession were analysed as this information assisted the court in making its decision.
Lekoro's accomplice Thamsanqa Sishuba is already serving a double life sentence for his role in the crime.
