Footage captured on a security camera of a leopard walking on a railway track at Glentana in the Garden Route has been confirmed by CapeNature as being the "real McCoy".
The video was widely shared on social media with many convinced that it was an April fools joke.
A spokesperson for CapeNature Petro van Rhyn says the footage was taken by a security camera of the Glentana Neighbourhood Watch on the morning of the 31st of March.
She says they suspect the leopard to be a young male who lives in the area as it has not been the first time that sightings have been reported between Glentana and Mossel Bay.
Johan Marais of Eden District Security installed the camera a year and a half ago to assist them with their anti-poaching initiatives.
He says this is the first time a leopard is seen on the camera.
