A 36-year old Eastern Cape man has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars in the Grahamstown High Court for killing his elderly mother.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha says Kwanele Mqeni was found guilty for the murder of his 74-year old mother and was sentenced on Friday.
He says the accused was arrested for assaulting his family members at Mooiplaas Village, East London in 2019, and his mother then submitted a statement to the East London Magistrate's Court for her son to be released on warning.
Manatha says during the night of 2 September 2019, Mqeni stabbed his mother several times and she died at the scene.
He also attacked his disabled brother, but he was rescued by community members.
