Five men received lengthy jail terms when they were sentenced in the Uitenhage Magistrates' Court yesterday on various serious charges, including armed robbery, kidnapping and theft.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, says the five, aged between 22 and 30 were sentenced to between 20 and 38 years in jail.
They were sentenced for an incident in June 2010 when they hijacked and kidnapped a man from Kwanobuhle and robbed him of his bank cards.
They withdrew a large sum of cash from his bank and were arrested two days later while trying to rob a business in the Uitenhage CBD using the hijacked vehicle.
