Two Eastern Cape boys have drowned while trying to cross a swollen river near Tsolo.
Police report that the learners were returning home from KT Mchasa High school in Tsolo earlier this week when they were swept away by the flooded Mapolisa river in the Mahlubini location.
The learners were in Grade 10 and Grade 11 and were trying to cross the river over a collapsed bridge when tragedy struck.
Police divers combed the area for two days before finding the bodies on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Lutho Khuzani and 14-year-old Chulumanco Shumani.
Eastern Cape Education MEC Fundile Gade has sent his condolences to the bereaved families.
The district provided the school learners and educators with psychosocial support.
