Learners depart for 54th International Mathematical Olympiad

A group of high school learners from across the country will depart for Columbia in July to take part in the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad.

The learners were selected based on their performance in the South African Mathematics Olympiad and other Olympiad programmes organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation last year.

Included in the group, is Pearson High School Grade 12 leaner, Shaylan Lalloo from Port Elizabeth.

Team leader, Rhodes University's Dr Koos van Zyl, says South Africa has been participating in the IMO since 1992, and last year, more than 100 countries participated at in Argentina.

IMO 2013 in Columbia will be taking place from 18 to 28 July in Santa Marta.
