A 17-year-old learner from Mdantsane in East London has drowned after being caught in a rip current at Hickmans River.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says volunteers from their East London station responded to the alarm and after an extensive search could not find the missing school boy.
He was part of a group of learners staying at a nearby youth camp who went with friends for a swim on Monday afternoon.
Lambinon says police opened an inquest docket and trauma counsellors attended to the school group. The search for the learners body will continue on Tuesday.
