Gqeberha businessman Arnold Terblanche will have to wait until early next month for the continuation of his bail application.

He was making another bid for bail on Thursday based on new facts and is currently languishing in prison along with his two co-accused after being charged with orchestrating the murder of his estranged wife, Vicki.

The matter was postponed in the PE Magistrate's court to the 3rd of May for the continuation of the bail application after the State asked for more time to prepare opposing papers.

The State said if there are newly presented facts in the more than 60 pages of documents submitted to court by the Defense, then the Prosecution would file its papers before the 9th of May, as the application was brought on an urgent basis.

Six affidavits, which largely painted Vicki in a bad light, as an alcoholic and drug addict, were submitted to court by people close to the Terblanche couple, including their domestic worker, Arnold Terblanche's previous wife, the deceased's former colleague and her nephew.

The papers further alleged that Vicki had extra marital affairs and that her husband had tried 'saving' her as far back as 2016.

In his own affidavit, Terblanche, backed up by his previous wife, said he was not abusive by nature and had never in any way violated the deceased.

He listened attentively to his defense lawyer presenting his argument in court, and also dismissed claims he intended to cash in on his wife's life policies. Terblanche said to date, none of these have even paid up. He also explained that the R3 000 paid to Leach was not for Vicki's murder, but for electricity and petrol.

The accused also said it was a blatant lie, with no evidence, that he and Leach met in secret locations and used various unregistered cell numbers to communicate.

He also told the court he has not been influencing witnesses and detailed the transfer of his assets to some of his family members.

Senior State Advocate Marius Stander questioned the timing of these new affidavits and asked why they had not been presented during Terblanche's initial bail application in the PE Magistrate's Court.

Fifty-five-year-old Terblanche is charged with murder alongside Vicki's former boyfriend, Reinardt Leach and Dylan Cullis.

Her body was found in a shallow grave in the Greenbushes area last October.
