KZN businessman in court for defrauding PE game reserve

A businessman from Port Shepstone appeared in the Specialised Commercial crimes court in Port Elizabeth for alleged fraud amounting to approximately R1.3 million.

The 43-year-old Marius Du Plessis, who owns an accounting and tax service company allegedly defrauded a private game reserve situated just outside of Port Elizabeth.

A spokesperson for the Hawks Captain Anelisa Feni says it is alleged that the game reserve made a number of deposits into Du Plessis' bank account in order for his company to register employees at the Department of Labour and for Workers Compensation.

The deposits were made between May 2016 and June 2017.

Feni says du Plessis allegedly never registered the workers and instead used the money for personal gain.

He was granted bail of R3 000 and will appear in court again on the 11th of February 2019.
