Kouga roads - update 14h30


The Kouga Municipality says the road between Oyster Bay and Humansdorp has been closed, and the alternative route is via Elandsjag and Tandjieskraal.

Spokesperson, Laura-Leigh Randall says the R330 between Weston and Hankey is open, but is being monitored.

She says the water level of the Sand River at St Francis Bay has subsided and the bridge is open to light vehicles only.

Randall says the level of the Kouga Dam stands at 107%, with Loerie Dam 104%, Churchill Dam 106,5% and the Mpofu Dam at 105,6%.



ROAD CLOSURES FOR SURROUNDING TOWNS IN KOUGA.

1. Oyster Bay to Humansdorp: CLOSED. Alternative route – Elandsjag/Tandjieskraal
2. Oyster Bay to St Francis Bay: Bakkies and 4x4s only
3. R102 between old Gamtoos bridge and Thornhill: Rocks and trees being cleared from the road. The road is open and traffic officers are on duty to direct traffic.
4. R102 west of Humansdorp: Also busy with rock-clearing on the road but the road is open to traffic.
5. R330 between Weston and Hankey: Open but being monitored

KOUGA EVACUATIONS

Thornhill: About 70 people have been moved to the community hall
Stofwolk (Hankey): About 60 people moved to the hall
Greenfields (Loerie): About 30 people moved to the hall
Sea Vista (St Francis): 73 people moved to the hall
Many houses – formal and informal – are flooded across Kouga but the municipality’s technical teams are busy trying to divert the water and/or helping people pump water from their houses.

KOUGA ELECTRICITY:

Electricity has been restored to all parts of Humansdorp. It is only sections of Tokyo Sexwale in Jeffreys Bay that is still without power but the municipality’s electricity team is busy replacing the transformer.
