Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of culpable homocide, after a 12-year old boy was knocked down in Burt Drive, Newton Park on Saturday evening.
Capt Johan Rheeder says a man in his 30's hit the boy with his Toyota bakkie, while he was walking with a friend from a nearby supermarket.
He says the boy died at the scene, but his friend escaped unharmed.
Rheeder says a few lampposts were knocked out of the ground during the accident.
He says the driver of the bakkie was arrested, and bloodsamples were taken.
