The Kouga Municipality will be heading to court next week to get an interdict against members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) who embarked on an illegal strike four days ago.
Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks says the case will be heard on Tuesday.
Protesting SAMWU members have trashed several roads across the region including Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, Hankey, Patensie and St Francis Bay.
Hendricks says protesters are moving in large groups without wearing masks putting their own lives and those of the public at risk.
“We would like to know from members of the Jeffreys Bay Police Station, who are at the scene of the strike, why no one has been arrested for disregarding COVID-19 regulations,” he says.
Hendricks says the dispute has now been referred to the Bargaining Council by the CCMA.
