Eastern Cape police have arrested a 45-year-old tavern owner in Komani on a charge of bribery.
Spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says police were conducting their routine Safer Festive Season operations on Christmas Day to curb contact crimes when they came across a tavern fully operational after midnight.
She says they instructed the owner to close the tavern and the clients to vacate the premises.
The business owner allegedly approached the police in the police vehicle and attempted to induce them to accept a stack of money for his business not to close.
Mgolodela says he allegedly dropped the money inside the police vehicle and was subsequently arrested.
The suspect will appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
