Komani has once again been hit by severe flooding following heavy rains that fell overnight.
Most crossings in the area are submerged and two cars were swept away by a strong current along Owen/Sprigg Street into the Komani river.
Bulelwa Ganyaza of the Chris Hani District Municipality says rescue teams managed to save two occupants whilst one is reportedly missing.
"A chopper has been requested to assist with the search while specialised rescue services have also been activated to search for the missing person," she said.
"Motorists are warned to be extremely cautious as some of the roads are inaccessible.
"The areas of Silvertown and Thulandivile informal settlements are once more highly affected. The extent of damages and people affected is yet to be determined as teams are still on the ground."
Gaynaza added that rescue teams are currently busy with evacuations and that the Disaster Management provincial office is also on site.
Meanwhile: The Eastern Cape Department of Health says a pregnant woman and an 11-day old baby are among scores of people rescued by their Emergency Medical Services personnel from floodwaters in Komani.
Two people trapped on top of their cars were among those rescued.
As at 07h30 on Saturday, more than 100 people including four children had been rescued.
This is the second time this month that Komani has been affected by floods as parts of the town were also under water on the 8th of February.
Health MEC Nomakhosazana Meth said public healthcare facilities had not been affected by the floods.
“We are proud of our EMS personnel for their swift response or else so many people would have been swept away or killed," she said.
“They are our heroes and heroines - the people of Komani are in safe hands."
