Knysna’s fibre-optic project, aimed at kick-starting a new economic boom for the town,is entering its second phase.
The project,KnysnaON, brings high-speed fibre-optic broadband to town.
During thefirst phase the connection between Knysna and Cape Town was established.
The next stepis to install fibre-optic cables over a 120km range.
Knysna mayor,Eleanore Bouw-Spies will be introducing the next phase of the project during aceremony at the town’s fire station Friday morning.
There arecurrently two free-to-access Wi-Fi hotspots in town.
Knysna’sacting municipal manager, Johnny Douglas said they are working towards being the first town in South Africa which is connecting both formal and informal communities in partnership with private sector.
