Knysna might soon be declared a disaster area.
This after the Western Cape Department of Local Government undertook to take Knysna Municipality’s water plight all the way to the Western Cape Provincial Government
Level Three water restrictions are already in place.
Municipality spokesperson, Fran Kirsten, said this was because residents of Greater Knysna had not played ball and reduced consumption.
She said residents are now very aware of the need to save water and she thanked each and every resident for the efforts they are making to save water.
She said the Akkerkloof and Glebe dams were likely to reach extremely low levels by the onset of winter.
Kirsten said dam levels were unlikely to recover satisfactorily if average to below average rainfall is predicted over this coming winter.
