The sexual Offences court in Knysna has imposed a 20-year prison sentence on 31-year-old Christo van Rooyen after he was found guilty of rape.
Police captain Malcolm Pojie says Van Rooyen was earlier convicted of raping a 12-year old girl on the grounds of Sunridge Primary School in Hornlee, Knysna, on the 29th of August last year.
Van Rooyen was subsequently arrested by Warrant Officer Pieter April who is no longer with the police service.
The commander of the George Family Violence and Sexual Offences Unit, Major Willie October has commended April for the investigative work that led to the conviction of the accused.
Major October also urged parents and guardians to take proper steps to safeguard their children.
