Knysna police sergeant arrested for alleged corruption

A police member has been arrested in Knysna on various charges, including corruption.

Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says the 43-year-old sergeant was arrested on Friday in an intelligence-driven operation following allegations of corruption by members of the public.

He says it is alleged that the suspect was involved in a scheme where traffic fines and other fines issued under the Disaster Management Act were either reduced or defrauded in turn for financial gain since September last year.

Pojie says the man was arrested at his place of work and appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on charges of corruption, forgery, theft and defeating the ends of justice.

He was released on bail of R500.

The case was postponed to 14 May for further investigation.
